The update of the vestiges
from the port and the ancient ramparts gave rise to a museum devoted to the history
of the city. The evocation of the foundation of Marseille and the first centuries
of its existence is articulated around the spectacular ship wreck of the 3th century
after J.C. A new presentation of the results of the
most recent excavations, as well as the original collection of the great Marseille
families' blazons, allows the evocation of the history of Marseille until the
XIX th century. (Open everyday except Sunday from

Le musée du vieux MarseilleThe
museum of the old city "La
maison diamantée" (diamonds house), which was saved from the destructions
of 1943, owes its name to the shape of the cut stones with facets which decorate
its frontage. Built at the end of the XVI th century by a rich merchant of Catalan
origin, Pierre GARBIOLE, it shelters the museum of the Marseille Old city. It
is a museum of art and popular traditions. To note, for example, the large wrought
iron grip which was used to remove the corpses in the street, during the great

Le musée des docks romainsThe
museum of the Roman docks Work of Fernand
BENOIT, it was inaugurated in September 1963. It shelters
the product of the archaeological excavations, of the ancient vestiges of MASSILIA
(ancient name of MARSEILLE). There, you can discover, for example, enormous earthenware
jars in place of a rare gréco-Roman trade warehouse. It gathers, moreover, some
archaeological sets evoking the commercial life in Marseille between the VI th
century before J.C. to the IV th after J.C. Back

museum of arts and popular traditions of Marseille Founded
in 1928 in the Castle-Gombert by Julien PIGNOL, the museum recalls the life from
the XVI th century in Marseille to the XIX th century by an alive and cordial
presentation. (Open every afternoon except Tuesday

Le Palais LongchampMusum
of Beaux-Arts It was created by
decree of the consular government on September 1st, 1800 and was located in the
convent vault of the bernardines by Charles Delacroix. The current museum of Beaux-Arts
was built under the Second Empire by Henri Espérandieu. It was inaugurated on
14 August 1869, and was lodged in the left wing of the Palais Longchamp . It
joins on two levels the important sets of the French, Italian, Flemish schools:
Pérugin, Carrache, Rubens, Vouet David, Billhook... as well as a whole of sculptures. The
school of Provence from the XVII th to the XIX th century constitutes one of strong
times of the collections where works of Puget meet, Serre, Mignard, Loubon, Monticelli,
Guigou... An important cabinet of drawings was installed in the building.

Musée BorélyBorély
Museum It shelters the museum
of archaeology and the collection Le Borset in an admirable framework. The
castle was built from 1776 to 1778 according to Clérisseau plans, by the architect
Brun and the painter Chaix for the ship-owner Louis Borély. Were added a series
of monuments and statues brought back from Egypt which were composed the collection

photohistory are gathered around the vestiges of Roquepertuse, high place of celto-Ligurian
civilization : a single whole in the South Gaule of pieces carved and painted
at the III th century before J.C. The section of Traditional
Antiquity reflects the large currents of the old history around the Mediterranean:
The Middle East, Cyprus, Greece, Large Greece, Etrurie.

Museum of African, Oceanian, Amerindian Arts The
Museum M.A.A.O.A. presents an exeptionnel objects unit from three continents.
The collection is articulated around L.P. donation (culptures and masks) and professor
Gastaut donation, a rare series of cranium whose the beauty transcends the physical

Le musée CantiniThe
Cantini Museum The Cantini museum
occupies since 1936 the most beautiful private mansion (built in 1694) of the
Cap Nègre company. Also known under the name of hotel Montgrand, it was the residence
of the count of Grignan governor of Provence and son-in-law of Madam de Sévigné.
The last owner, the sculptor and monumental mason Jules Cantini, bequeathed to
the city with the collections of pieces of furniture, tapestries, earthenware,
and all its furniture whose incomes were intended for the museum enrichment. In
this museum, were gathered important fawn-coloured and surrealist sets as well
as after-war works. The whole constitutes one of most beautiful French public
collections: Bacon, Dufy, Ernst, Le Corbusier, Leger, Matisse, Masson, Miro, Picabia,
Picasso, Derain, Giacometti, Dubuffet, Tapies etc.

Museum Opened in 1926, it is arranged
in the intimist atmosphere of the private mansion Grobet-Labadie. It
is consisted by the remarkable collection of sculptures, paintings and drawings,
furniture, tapestries and earthenware from the XIII th to the XVIII th century
which were bequeathed to the city in 1921 per Mrs Grobet, born Labadie, in accordance
